Dena McDowell
Founder of Freebird Design Group, Dena believes it is essential to discover what your gift is and let the world benefit from it! Interior Design has been a long-time obsession for Dena, as she had the opportunity to grow-up in Iowa, where she developed her signature style that she refers to as rustic-elegance with a vintage twist. She approaches design like she does life, without limits, mixing different textures, colors and embracing each individual style on any budget.
While Dena decided to enter the medical world upon graduating from the University of Iowa, she continued to give design advise and decorating tips to friends and family…while getting her own advise to “quit and pursue design full-time”! The decision to take the plunge and follow a long-time dream was made after the sudden death of her brother, Mitch, in October, 2013. “When you loose someone you love so suddenly, it rocks you to your core...I decided to honor him by not taking one more day for granted and I made my dream a reality.”
Dena has three children, Jack, Josie and Charlie that she refers to as, “the reason I do anything in my life." Her wish is that some day, her children will find what they love and fight for it…and maybe love design as well and get into the family business! She is married to her high-school sweetheart and best friend and knows that without him Freebird would still just a dream.
